Tomorrow Women In Sports Foundation

Tomorrow Women in Sports Foundation (TWISF) is a learning, feminist and a center for sport and human rights in Uganda that focuses on advancing the world of sport that fully respects and promotes the human rights of women in sports by creating awareness around visibility, advocating for social justice inclusion and policies that enable them to actively enjoy their right to sport without discrimination.
TWISF harnesses the power of sport to build sustainable communities, dismantle patriarchy and change narratives. We are committed to breaking down the structural, social and personal barriers that prevent women and structurally silenced persons in their diversities from accessing, participating and excelling in and through sports. TWISF further harnesses the power of sport to build sustainable communities, dismantle patriarchy and change narratives.

We create, raise and promote awareness on human rights

We use sports to create, raise and promote awareness on human rights, challenge discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity, gender based violence, sexual abuse and exploitation against structurally silenced persons in both formal and informal sports spaces in Uganda.

Vision

A sports environment that respects promotes and protects human rights of structurally silenced women.

Mission

To advance a world of sport that protects, promotes, and respects the human rights of women and gender-expansive persons through research, advocacy, awareness creation, legal support, capacity building, economic empowerment, and delivering impact.

Background History

Sport has been historically constructed and reconstructed as a male-oriented domain and an avenue in which hegemonic masculinity has been the dominant ideology, particularly within institutionalized sport. It therefore remains closely aligned to hegemonic masculinity. There was need to deconstruct sports spaces and shift the narrative towards acceptance and inclusion of women and structurally silenced persons.

TWISF is proud being the only organization that addresses the plight of sports for structurally silenced persons in Uganda whose core business is to promote and protect the rights and freedoms of everyone regardless of their sexual orientation, physical ability and gender identity as provided for in the Uganda constitution and international statutes.

TWISF commits to engaging with the entire sports ecosystem in ways that drive positive change, share knowledge, build capacity, and strengthen the accountability of all actors involved in sports through feminist approaches and collective action so as to strengthen the respect for human rights, and shape the future of sport for inclusive and equitable participation.

OUR PRINCIPLES

Learning, Advocating and Challenging

As a feminist organization we learn, re-learn and unlearn every day in order to challenge patriarchy and stereotypes, we continue to advocate for inclusion and intersectionality in sport which we believe is a value for transformative change.

Empowerment

Core to our work is empowering the communities to take their rightful place in sport and supporting individual and collective representation of the community from within sport.

Diversity

We celebrate and embrace difference and we respect and value the vast array of identities which is why we regularly use the term structurally silenced in our day to day work.
